The Prince Edward Island International Shellfish Festival Promises Shellfish Fans the Biggest Party Yet!

exposio_0005(Thursday September 10th, Charlottetown PEI) The 20th anniversary celebrations for the Prince Edward Island International Shellfish Festival kick off on Thursday September 17th – 20th at the Charlottetown Event Grounds. The four day Festival features live competitions, over $26,000 in cash prizes, celebrity chefs, Atlantic Canada’s largest Kitchen Party and of course, world famous Prince Edward Island Shellfish.

The official birthday bash will take place on Sunday September 20th. Toronto’s emerging bluegrass band, The Slocan Ramblers and CCMA award-winner George Canyon will headline the party. As well the PEI Fisherman’s Association will be attempting to break the World Record for the Longest Lobster Roll. The current World record is held by Shediac, New Brunswick for a record of 72 feet and 4 inches. Samples will be provided while suuplies last for the first 400 people. Watch Chef Lynn Crawford demonstrate her recipe for the best lobster roll filling during her main stage demonstration. Also as part of the 20th anniversary celebrations on Sunday, the top two chefs will compete in the Garland Canada International Chef Challenge for $10,000 and attendees can sample the best seafood chowders by International chefs.

Warm up for the 20th birthday bash with Canada’s largest Terry Fox Run! The PEI Shellfish Festival encourages all attendees to head to the Confederation Bridge to take part in the 35th Anniversary Terry Fox Run between 7:00am – Noon on Sunday, September 20. Join us for the 20th birthday bash at the Charlottetown Event Grounds after the run. Pre-registration is required for runners and walkers at www.terryfox.org.

Food Network Canada’s Chef Lynn Crawford and Island comedian Patrick Ledwell have a fun filled night of laughter planned at Feast and Frolic presented but the PEI Fishermen’s Association. Roll up your sleeves and dig in to Prince Edward Island’s largest “all-you-can-eat” oyster bar, where you can sample as many oysters as you like from Island oyster growers. The Culinary Institute of Canada will be serving a four course meal including International award-winning seafood chowder, a traditional shellfish feast served family-style loaded with bounties of PEI mussels, clams, snow crab, potatoes and all the fixins, plus sweet Island-inspired desserts. Meet PEI’s very own Fiddling Fisherman, Captain J.J. Chaisson of the Chaisson A Dream, and earn your stripes as first mate as you learn how to crack PEI lobsters and play the spoons! New this year, Garland Canada International Chef Challenge Access Pass. Get up close to all the action in this intense culinary challenge all weekend long for $10,000. Your Access Pass includes guaranteed seating at the Kitchen Stadium to watch the competition and all day entry to the Festival tent. Daily Access Passes are on sale for $28.00 to select heats of the competition or weekend Access Pass to take in all 4 heats of the competition are available for $59.00.

Festival weekend passes are sold out! The 20th anniversary is expecting a sell out crowd so be sure to get your claws on tickets in advance. Festival day passes are available for an advance price of $13.25 until Thursday September 17th at midnight. On site prices will increase to $16.50.
