Chef La-toya is a Canadian chef with strong Jamaican roots, and she grew up cooking and eating “island foods,” but it was only after several years in the culinary industry that she began creating her own take on ‘Island Paradise’, fusing traditional Caribbean ingredients with Mediterranean flavours. Chef La-toya says “I love everything about food – the smells, the flavours, the tastes, the texture and colours and mainly the raw essence of ingredients and putting it together, creating an explosion of tastes on one’s palate.”
She fell in love with cooking as a teenager, completed the George Brown’s Culinary Arts program and continued to train at a number of top restaurants and hotels throughout Toronto, Europe and Mexico. That range of experience and training has led La-toya to her current enterprise, Twist Catering, which she describes as “culinary expressions with a twist.”
Chef La-toya is very active in the community, and her many roles include brand ambassador and Executive Chef for Grace Foods Canada; VP of Alli’s Journey; personal chef to the Toronto Raptors; and hospitality partner with the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF).
