If it’s fall then it must be food month in Prince Edward Island! The hugely popular Fall Flavours Festival runs for five weeks in 2019, and the perennial favourite PEI International Shellfish Festival opens September 20. The Festival, now in its 24th year, features three days of fresh and delicious local seafood, live music, and intense culinary competitions in a massive tent on the Charlottetown Waterfront. What do you need to know before heading down?
What’s on the menu?
A seemingly endless supply of shellfish throughout the event, including oysters, lobster, mussels, seafood chowder, and many other tasty treats from the sea. Plus, an excellent selection of non-shellfish items like a Porchetta Sammy and Potato Dumplings. Please note that all food and drinks need to be paid for with Shellfish Bucks, available for purchase onsite.
Where are the Charlottetown Event Grounds?
The Festival site is located at 360 Grafton St, just on the Charlottetown side of the Hillsborough Bridge.
Is there parking available?
You can park at CADC Parking Lot (across from Charlottetown Event Grounds), the Holland College Parking Lot and the Shellfish Festival Parking for $5 for the day and evening. Check out the parking map.
Can I take a shuttle?
Complimentary shuttle service to and from the festival site is available from official hotels the Charlottetown Conference Centre, the Rodd Charlottetown plus a few stops in downtown Charlottetown and from the Hampton Inn on the TransCanada Highway.
How much does it cost?
A weekend pass is $35 and day passes are $14 or $17. Tickets can be booked online, or purchased at the event. Kids under age 6 get in for free.
How early should I come for the evening events?
We can guarantee priority entry with any valid ticket prior to 7pm with no wait and no lineups. We will have a limited number of tickets on sale at the door, even for sold-out evenings. These go on sale after 7pm based on capacity in the tent. If the night is in particularly high demand, we suggest you come before 7pm to avoid line-ups.
What kind of music will be playing?
Eastlink Kitchen Party’s musical entertainment ranges from local young fiddlers and stepdancers to popular bands like Signal Hill, Love Junkies, Great Big Party Band, J.P. Cormier and Dave Gunning.
What can the kids do?
We offer free admission to little skippers age 6 and under! After 8 pm our venue is a licensed location for age 19+.
What can’t I bring to the festival.
Sorry, no pets, lawn chairs or outside food.
Can I get a beer or a glass of wine?
We have four great beverage sponsors: Moosehead for beers, Barefoot wines, Nova Scotia Spirits will be serving Blue Lobster coolers and Pepsi products will be available throughout. Don’t forget the famous Mott’s Clamato Best Caesar in Town competition!
Is the event wheelchair accessible?
Yes, the tent is fully wheelchair accessible. Services include an accessible parking lot for those with government issued parking passes and accessible washrooms.
What is included in my ticket?
General admission tickets include access to the Festival tent for all of the fun including celebrity chef demos, competitions, and nightly entertainment. You might be on hand for free samples of chowder or lobster rolls and buy Shellfish Bucks to purchase extra food and beverages.
